Jason Miller gasses early, Michael Bisping abuses the TV star to win main event at ?TUF 14 Finale?

LAS VEGAS - Just based on fighting skills, Michael Bisping is not an easy guy to fight. When you roll in the emotion the Brit seems to draw out of all his opponents, the adrenaline rush has to be managed or else you're in for a long night.

Jason Miller couldn't do so and got walloped in a one-sided fight in the main event of the Season 14 "Ultimate Fighter Finale." Standing, and on the ground, Bisping landed dozens of shots to the body and head of Miller on his way to a finish at the 3:34 mark of the third round. UFC president Dana White told the cageside said it was one of the most one-sided fights he's ever seen.

"He's a tough guy," Bisping told UFC analyst Joe Rogan. "I knew if I was going to finish him, I had to have a high work rate. "

According to FightMetric, Bisping, who threw? outlanded Miller 150-38. Miller got blasted in the head 125 times.

The 'TUF 14' coaches nearly came to blows several times during the season. Miller got on Bisping's nerves and vice versa. The Brit even snapped during the weigh-in on Friday when he cursed at a booing crowd. Miller has the ability to get under anyone's skin, but he just didn't have the fighting skills in his tool box to compete with Bisping once he exhausted himself with an all-out first round.

Miller (24-9-1, 0-2 UFC) got the fight to the mat in that opening round and did a little damage, but when he couldn't get it down in the next two rounds (0-for-9 on takedown attempts) he took a beating on the feet and was outstruck 123-10.

Bisping's technical boxing is very good. He worked well behind his jab (landed 76-of-112 jabs) and when Miller tried his wild haymakers, Bisping (22-3, 12-3 UFC) countered with the right. By the end of the fight, Miller had an ugly mouse under his left eye.

The final round was borderline embarrassing for Miller, who's carved out quite a niche in the satellite radio world and on television as the host of MTV's "Bully Beatdown."

In the opening seconds of the round, Miller immediately retreated to the cage where Bisping just unloaded 6-8 shots at a time. Miller tried one last sloppy single-leg takedown that failed and he just stayed on the ground.

Bisping went into overdrive and pummeled Miller with knees and punches to the side before the American settled on his back. He took more abuse there and then flipped to his knees. Bisping pounded away and the referee had to stop it.

"Yeah,?I would say this is one of the most rewarding wins of my career," Bisping said. "I think Jason and I did a great job on The Ultimate Fighter. ?It was entertaining, we had a great season, we had great fighting talent on the show. I'm very proud of the show that was put out. There are good guys and bad guys, and people try to peg me as the bad guy. I really don't know what I do to deserve that, but who cares. ?This was a satisfying victory."

Bisping would like a title shot against UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, but admitted with a first round like he turned in tonight he would have a tough time defeating the pound-for-pound king.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Presidential candidate Mitt Romney stepped up attacks on rival Newt Gingrich Friday, labeling Gingrich as a Washington insider who is unlikely to win the Republican nomination.

In an interview on "Fox & Friends," Romney repeatedly pointed to Gingrich's decades of service in the House of Representatives and elsewhere in government.

"I must admit that Newt has had a very extensive, long record of working in Washington with various governmental and non-governmental agencies, and I just don't think that's the background that's ideally suited, one, to replace (President) Barack Obama, and number two, to lead the country," Romney said. "This is not a matter of that America needs better lobbyists, or better deal-makers, better insiders ? I think America needs a leader."

Romney also disputed Gingrich's claim that Gingrich would win the nomination.

"I'm going to be the nominee," Gingrich said Thursday in an interview with ABC.

When asked if he disagreed, Romney said: "I sure do."

"Let me tell you, over the last year, they've been a lot of people that have been real high in the polls that are not high in the polls anymore," Romney said. "So you know there's this funny thing in America, it's called the election, and to win the election, you've got to earn it."

Romney offered his own prediction. "I'm confident that this will be a successful campaign," he said. "Self-aggrandizing statements about polls are not going to win elections."

The comments represent Romney's most aggressive attacks yet on Gingrich, who has risen in national polls in recent weeks and is currently viewed as the chief conservative alternative to Romney. And while Romney has seen others conservative candidates rise, only to fall back, Gingrich is already a national figure with significant policy expertise ? and there is less than a month before voting begins in Iowa, leaving Romney less time to attack.

Romney's comments came a day after Gingrich said he wanted to stay above-board, telling The Associated Press while campaigning in Iowa, "I'm not going to focus on Romney or anybody else." He made the comment just days after saying in South Carolina that he was "a lot more conservative than Mitt Romney" and added: "It's wrong to go around and adopt radically different positions based on your need of any one election."

Opposition expected to win Croatian vote (AP)

ZAGREB, Croatia ? Croatians voted Sunday in a parliamentary election expected to unseat long-dominant conservatives and empower a center-left coalition just as the country prepares to join the European Union.

The winner also will inherit a nation where social discontent is rising due to declining living standards and high unemployment ? struggles that come amid the backdrop of a broader European economic crisis.

The vote for Croatia's 151-seat parliament pits the governing center-right Croatian Democratic Union, or HDZ, against a coalition of left-leaning parties. The latter has led recent opinion polls.

Croatia is to sign an accession treaty with the EU next Friday. The country of 4.3 million is on track to join the EU in July 2013 as the bloc's 28th member.

The conservatives have ruled Croatia since its 1990s war for independence from the former Yugoslavia, except for the 2001-2003 period, when the center-left coalition took over.

But HDZ has been embroiled in corruption scandals, including alleged involvement in illegal fundraising for previous elections, that have diminished its popularity. Its former leader and ex-Prime Minister Ivo Sanader is on trial for allegedly pocketing millions in bribes before he abruptly resigned in 2009.

Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, the current conservative leader, has pushed a platform appealing to Croatian's sense of patriotism.

"In the European Union, most of the governments are from the same family of parties as we are, the Christian democratic parties," Kosor told The Associated Press. "That is why it is important that HDZ runs our government once we become an EU member, because it is extremely important that you are among the majority at the table where decisions are made."

Zoran Milanovic, the leader of the center-left so-called "Kurkuriku" coalition ? Croatian for the "cock-a-doodle-doo" rooster cry ? has run a relatively low-key campaign.

"The easier part is winning the election," Milanovic said. "Reforming the country will be much more difficult."

Kris Humphries is almost definitely not gay. But the emerging power-forward-turned-reality-star has filed to annul his marriage to Kim Kardashian, effectively asking the court to legally decree this ex-couple's wedding never took place.

No, this does not mean they'd give back the millions of dollars earned from the televised nuptials. Those bank deposits definitely took place.

So, how does Kim feel about her estranged husband's wish for an annulment?

"The filing is, of course, upsetting," an insider tells People. "She respects Kris and just wants them both to find peace and move on... Kim doesn't want a battle."

But she may have one on her money-starved hands because - for religious reasons - a friend of Kris' tells TMZ that divorce simply is not an option for him. Even if the annulment doesn't work out, he'd prefer an "indefinite separation" because it would keep him clean in the eyes of the church.

"Kim is sad how things ended up," says the People source. "The split was a devastating decision from the beginning."

Head of famed embroidery house Lesage dies at 82 (AP)

PARIS ? Francois Lesage, the heir of the legendary Maison Lesage embroidery atelier which has long been embellishing Paris couture houses' most fantastic creations, died Thursday, the house said. He was 82 years old.

In a statement, the house said Lesage died "after a long battle against his illness," without providing any details.

Founded by Lesage's father, Maison Lesage worked for creme de la creme of early 20th-century designers, including Vionnet and Elsa Schiaparelli.

As the number of embroidery ateliers in the French capital dwindled throughout the century, the house of Lesage became the go-to spot for designers looking for exceptional work. Under Lesage's leadership, the house acquired such prestigious clients as Dior, Givenchy, Balenciaga and Christian Lacroix.

Luxury supernova Chanel bought out the atelier in 2002, as part of its bid to ensure the survival of the "petites mains," or artisans ? from embroiders to flower- button- and hat-makers ? the City of Light's top fashion labels rely on.

"Francois Lesage was an immense lover of couture who established embroidery as a true art form and was internationally renowned," the statement quoted Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion at Chanel and president of the Maison Lesage, as saying. Both houses "are committed to perpetuating the exceptional know-how that he bequeathed to his embroiders and thus will pay the greatest homage to his talent as an artisan."

The transmission of the craft was a major preoccupation for Lesage himself, and he founded an embroidery school housed inside the atelier ? a mazelike warren of rooms stacked with feathers, sequins, beads and silk in Paris' scruffy 12th district.

About a dozen women work in the atelier ? with reinforcements ahead of Paris fashion week. Simple jobs, like adding flash to a plunging neckline, generally take around 20 hours of work. More complicated pieces, like the iconic trompe-l'oeil leopard skin gown made for Jean Paul Gaultier in 1998, require upward of 500.

Born on March 31, 1929 into a family of embroiders, Lesage once commented that he "never had any doubt as to what I was to do in life, given I was born into a pile of beads and sequins," according to the statement.

After taking over the embroidery studio as a young man, he became an icon of Paris' fashion scene. A debonaire gentleman impeccably turned out in dark suits, Lesage was a frequent front-row guest at the fashion houses for which he worked.

An accomplished equestrian, Lesage was made a chevalier, or knight, in France's prestigious Legion d'Honneur honor society.

UK navy apprehends 7 suspected pirates (AP)

LONDON ? Britain's navy arrested seven suspected pirates after a helicopter-led chase in the Indian Ocean, the Ministry of Defense said Thursday.

The ministry said the RFA Fort Victoria ship was patrolling an area off the coast of Somalia and the Seychelles when it received information that a Spanish fishing vessel had come under attack by a group of pirate vessels.

A helicopter dispatched to investigate saw two suspect boats ? the faster of which, a skiff, sped off and forced the helicopter to give chase, the ministry said.

It said that when the skiff refused orders to stop, a sniper on the helicopter fired warning shots ahead of the boat, bringing the fleeing vessel to a halt.

"We could see the fishing vessel was clearly in trouble and our actions were decisive in disrupting the pirates from further attacks on the fishermen and eventually stopping them," said Lt. Alastair Thompson, the royal navy flight commander in the operation.

The ministry said suspected pirates on board the skiff were then taken by boat to the Fort Victoria, and a royal marines boarding team inspected two other boats in the vicinity.

"As a result of the day's action, a total of seven suspected pirates were held onboard Fort Victoria along with their whaler as evidence, with no injuries being sustained by either side," it said in a statement.

The same ship, RFA Fort Victoria, in October was involved in the dramatic rescue of an Italian cargo ship that had been hijacked by Somali pirates. The ship responded along with U.S. forces and helped bring 23 crew members to safety.

The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Seychelles government granted permission to bring the suspected pirates to the islands for prosecution.

Britain's Foreign Office also said Wednesday that a U.K.-trained police dog team had gathered vital evidence to help prosecute the suspected pirates and the information will be shared with the Seychelles Prosecutor, who will conduct further investigations.

It said a search by a Spaniel and a Labrador ? Diesel and Millie ? indicated that the alleged pirates' vessel "may contain traces of explosives or firearms."

Piracy is rife in the Indian Ocean, particularly off the coast of Somalia.
