A few guests can get together and get a big laundry basket. Place in it a long clothes line with outfits, diapers, bibs, etc. pinned to it. It can also decorate the new addition?s bedroom. This is an all-around gift that goes down great because of its usefulness.
Baby Quilt. This one?s a dandy if you (or other guests) happen to enjoy quilting and sewing. For example, look for a quilt that shows the complete alphabet on it. On each square, match the letters of the alphabet with objects that start with that letter. You can also place numbers on it. Organize your team of guests by giving each guest a part of the quilt to sew, and they can have free reign as far as embroidering, embellishing and decorating the square(s) is concerned. If the quilt is best as a wall hanging, then you can have the team bring cute little baby toys to hang on it. Use your skills as organizer to follow-up with guests so that way everybody has their responsibilities completed well before the shower, and their parts of the block signed. You can also use the quilt to add decoration and accent to the shower.
Create a scrapbook for the shower. Take blank scrapbook pages and have everyone write down their well wishes (without Mom knowing it) for the new baby. You can either have this completed during the shower or shortly before, or you could present it to the proud mom after she gives birth at the hospital. Some nice photos would accentuate such a gift if you give it post-shower!
On a related note, you could decorate pieces of heavy paper with anything related to babies ? stamps, photos, what have you ? and pass them on to your guests. Ask the team to write their names on the paper and give their own personal advice on parenting. Once everyone is finished, collect them, add a cover, punch holes in it, and tie it together with some ribbon. Then hand it to Mom to read aloud. Imagine the tears of joy as the proud new mama reads each heartfelt piece of advice! Girls, let your creativity and personality shine through on this idea!
The would-be daddy should get something as well, and with that in mind, you can have the members of your team bring an extra gift, preferably a small one for the father-to-be, and as the host, organizer and team leader, you can place the gifts in a large bag and present the bag to Daddy-O as the party wraps up. This can be opened any time Daddy feels like it, either with Mommy present or when friends and family are there to see it.
The Diaper Shower. For celebrants with two babies or more, a diaper shower can be considered. The gifts should not be anything beyond a set of diapers. While other guests may bring their own gifts on their own volition, the proud mama will end up with a Mount McKinley of diapers ? not too bad at all! Other gift ideas include ointment, wipes, powder and other diaper-related items that could be useful.
The Casserole Shower. The Casserole Shower is especially neat for that mom who has all that they need. Ask your guests to prepare a casserole or ready to cook meal that would be best served after the baby is born, something that can be frozen in the meantime. And so Mom won?t be clueless as to how to prepare the dishes, don?t leave out the ingredients and cooking instructions. How helpful that will be when Mom and Baby come home!
Book Party. Have each guest purchase and give a copy of their favorite childhood book.
